Dr. Julia Simmons



Dr. Simmons wears many hats at Children’s Mercy Kansas City – hospitalist, medical director of Utilization Review and associate medical director of Integrated Care Solutions – all of which support the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s Triple Aim, which emphasizes quality of care, cost and population health. Her work is critical as it relates to health care payment reform, aimed at reining in health care spending and improving quality of care. Specifically, Dr. Simmons partners with Utilization Review leaders and payers to address inpatient medical needs and appropriateness of services based on evidencebased national care guidelines.

It’s clear that education is a priority for Dr. Simmons. She graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s Degree from Xavier University, while also conducting research during the summers at Wayne State University, the University of Rochester, the University of Missouri and Lincoln University. She then set her sights on a career in medicine, earning her medical degree four years later from St. Louis University School of Medicine. She furthered her education most recently receiving a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Missouri Kansas City.

Julia’s passion for health has led her to work with several civic and community organizations over the years. She an active member and community-outreach volunteer for the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection. She has also been involved with the Malawi Project that secured medicine for children and services of several volunteer pediatricians in Malawi, Africa. Dr. Simmons is laser-focused on delivering extraordinary care and decreasing costs for the children of our Greater Kansas City metropolitan community, and beyond.
